Jennifer Skyler Joins American Express as New Chief Corporate Affairs Officer
I am very pleased to announce that Jennifer Skyler will be joining American Express as our new Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, effective October 28th. She will be a member of our Executive Committee and an officer of the company reporting to me.
Jen joins us from the We Company, parent of WeWork, where she was their first communications hire when she started in 2015. At WeWork, she helped build the leading provider of workspace communities for small businesses, entrepreneurs and large enterprises into a global brand. She served as Chief Communications Officer and scaled a global team responsible for communications, government relations and corporate social responsibility.
Prior to WeWork, she established and ran Facebook’s consumer communications group, a team of communicators and data scientists. Jen began her career in the newsrooms of CNN and ultimately covered the White House. She later worked at the CBS Evening News, where she won awards for her political producing, before becoming a corporate communications professional.
Jen has a terrific track record of leading high-performing teams, creating innovative social media, press and content campaigns, launching products and managing complex public policy issues. As someone who helped to establish global recognition for two of the business world’s fastest-growing companies, she has a great appreciation of the entrepreneurial culture that is so critically important in today’s marketplace.
A native of Flint, Michigan and graduate of the University of Michigan, Jen lives in New York City with her husband and three young children.
When she joins us later this year, she will be succeeding our long-time colleague, Mike O’Neill, and taking over a Corporate Affairs & Communications team that is one of the best in the business. She will be responsible for our colleague and external communications, social media, corporate social responsibility and reputational risk management. Mike, who announced his retirement plans earlier this year, will be with us through year end to help with the transition. Mike’s leaves big shoes to fill but Jen is the right person to build on his many successes.
I look forward to welcoming Jen to American Express and hope you will join me once again in thanking Mike for all he’s done for American Express throughout a distinguished career.
